“Contributions of Artists and Scientists to Society”

It is generally agreed that society benefits from the work of its members. Compare the contributions of artists to society with the contributions of scientists to society. Which type of contribution do you think is valued more by your society? Give specific reasons to support your answer.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Any society is developed by the contributions of its members. Two of the main contributors are Artists and Scientists. Both of such contributions share some common qualities; however, they differ in many other aspects.

The contributions of artists and those of scientists share some similarities. First of all, both are indispensable and require time and effort. In the absence of those, life will be dull, boring, and so difficult to live. Secondly, they reflect the culture and civilization of the nation by making us understand the customs and traditions of that country. Last but not least, they can contribute to people’s progress and development by making them mature and more knowledgeable.

However, there are some differences that exist between the contributions of artists and those of scientists. Firstly, the works of artists are embodied in novels, songs, music, shows, movies, plays, paintings, performances, and operas, while the works of scientists are embodied in inventions and discoveries in the fields of physics, chemistry, outer space travel, medicine, computer science, engineering, physics, biology, astronomy, geology, and many more. Secondly, the works of artists provide entertainment and amusement to people and help them relax and raise their morale. While the works of scientists make life much livable and more comfortable. Moreover, the works of artists are the products of creative form of imaginations that require a lot of talent and special skills, whereas the works of scientists require knowledge of science and mathematics and these works are based on experiments, research and development work.

To sum up, I believe that the contributions of artists as well as scientists both are equally valuable and important for the human society.

“Computers versus Teachers”

As computers are being used more and more in education, there will be soon no role of teachers in the class room. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
---------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t agree that because computers are being used more and more in education computers can replace teachers in class room and education. In this essay I shall highlight the role of a teacher in education.

A teacher is the one who educates the students. He teaches new things to the student which they have never known before. Whereas a computer gives information the said information may or may not be perceived correctly by students. Needless to say wrong perception may be disastrous and detrimental.

Teachers’ role is not limited to merely teaching syllabus but teachers are the main character builders and personality builders of the students. Character and Personality are paramount importance to any individual. In absence of a well developed Personality and sound character the most highly educated person miserably fails in the life. Furthermore with the help of computers students can revise the learned lessons and subjects. Also more information can be obtained on a particular subject matter. Studies on computers are hassle free and relatively less time consuming.

When a student does not perform up to the marks, teachers are questioned and they are answerable. When somebody is answerable quality of education is bound to be superior. In case a student studies with his or her computer and fails to perform up to the marks, computer is not anyway answerable. Student is the master of his own. Even teachers have teachers it is the strongest evidence of importance of teachers in education. Without teachers education system can not function.

In conclusion computers can no way replace teachers.

“Computers Have Made Life Easier”

Some people say that computers have made life easier and more convenient. Other people say that computers have made life more complex and stressful. What is your opinion? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
-----------------------------------------------------

Indeed the life has become easier and convenient because of computerization I opine. In this essay we will look at some of the technological breakthroughs made today while simultaneously exploring how these advancements are impacting our culture, our relationships and our individual lives.

Most people welcome computers that have improved the ways we work and we play. Technology is advancing at a speed that is far beyond our imagination. Now computers are most important in our lives. Students come across computers both at home and at school.

Governments worldwide have introduced computers and internet connections in classrooms. All businesses are fully taken over and performed by our computers only. Say banking, education, air booking, rail booking, road booking, buying selling, renting, trading in equity market, tender inquiries and what not. Even marriages are also fixed on internet. I am reminded of an old saying which has rotated by 180 degrees now, saying is------
“Marriages Are Made In Heaven” now modified as “Marriages Are Made On Internet”.

In nutshell, there are some ill effects of this adventure of computerization, like we totally miss personal human touch. We are now more introverts. We tend to remain sedentary that may give rise to obesity, weight gain blood pressure etc. Also one suffers from spine related problems like back ache, muscular pains etc those are the professional hazards. But then it is a general rule that “Adventure is what makes life worth living. Every occupation has its aches and pains. The rich have to worry about their wealth. But, if there is a choice between remaining poor and worry-free, the selection is obvious. It is better to be wealthy and worried than to be worry-free and poor.” So we welcome computerization.

“Computer Dependence”

We are becoming increasingly dependent on computers. They are used in business, hospitals, crime detection and even to fly planes. What things will they be used for in future? Is this dependence on computers a good thing or should we be more suspicious of their benefits?
(Write minimum 250 Words)
--------------------------------------------------------------

Computer is a relatively new invention. Computers were invented about fifty years ago. However they came in extensive use some thirty years back. Personal Computers were put in use some times in the year 1980. In this short spell computers made tremendous impact on our lives. We are now so much dependent on computers that life without computers can’t be imagined. Imagine the amount of chaos that would occur if Railway Ticket Booking, Air Booking, Banking computers fails. Or they are removed world wide.

Now computers are available in the note book form known as lap tops that are portable and can be carried any where. Even Palmtops are also available now. None the less the handy cell phones now have numerous features of computers. Computers are used in Human health monitoring, Air traffic run and control, Banking, Rail & Air booking etc.

With the time tremendous development has been made in the field of computers. We must be fully conversant with the latest technological developments, modus operandi, operation and maintenance of the computers and systems. This calls for a high degree of knowledge and skills. If we do not have adequate knowledge of computer systems a day may come when system collapses and we may not be able to restore it and we may be rendered totally helpless.

In a nutshell, we are totally dependent on computers; we may not become suspicious about its benefits. However we must have a foresightedness and preparedness to over power contingencies that we may have to face due to random system failure.
We must “Hope For The Best and Prepare For The Worst”.

“Complaint Written or in Person”

When people need to complain about a product or poor service, some prefer to complain in writing and others prefer to complain in person. Which way do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
---------------------------------------------------

I prefer to complain in person as far as possible. Because I strongly believe that face to face communication is always better and most effective. Face-to-face communication remains one of the fundamental needs to business success. Consistent, daily face-to-face communication promotes more than just good feelings; it also promotes effective and collaborative teamwork.” However whether to complain in person or by writing shall largely depend upon the distance of vendor’s location from our location. Should the distance be too large involving lot of time and cost of journey, it is wiser to either talk on telephone or send an email.

Furthermore face to face or by writing shall also depend upon the cost of product or service. The product may be like a mixer, camera, washing machine, or a refrigerator other way round the product may be an automobile and alike, furthermore it could be huge Power Generation Turbines, High Tension Electrical Panels or Control Panels with Switch Gears and alike involving a huge capital. For those products and services involving large capital costs it is preferable to meet and negotiate about any shortcomings or complaints rather than tossing with papers and delaying the project. On the other hand for items of domestic day to day use from local nearby vendors meet and sort out would be better depending upon the distance criteria.

In conclusion, face-to-face communication has worked for millions of years. The best communication occurs when a speaker and a listener are in the same room. “Eye contact, facial expressions, body movements, space, time, distance, appearance—all these nonverbal clues influence the way the message is interpreted, by the receiver. However it shall depend upon the distance and cost criteria as mentioned in above paragraphs. Nonetheless Face to face is preferable.

Let me tell you about the musical concert of Michael Jackson that I attended last week in Bangalore. I was in Bangalore on an official tour and one of my colleagues offered me a ticket to accompany him hence I attended the concert.

Michael Jackson with other artists and the orchestra team performed and the performance was just fabulous and I enjoyed a lot. Besides the hall was just a great hall, beautifully air-conditioned with marvelous lighting arrangement and very comfortable seating arrangement. All artists were gorgeously dressed that gave a magnificent look. Most songs and tunes were Rock-n-roll and Pop.

I recommend that you must attend this concert without fail because you are a Harmonica player and very fond of fast western music and Pop music. You shall enjoy this concert. The said concert is available till Saturday. May be you may pick up some more songs and tunes to be played on your harmonica.

Write a letter to the bank. Explain what has happened and say what you would like them to do.

Bank Manager,

Dear Sir / Madam,
Greetings,

I am rather unhappy and shocked to receive your letter of 1st July 2007 stating that my account No: SB/ 0004321 is $240 overdrawn further more you would directly debit $70 from this account. This is not what I expect from you, a Bank of such a high repute.

Please be understood that as per the standing instructions for my Systematic Investment Plan with Franklin Mutual Fund House, you were required to pay $240 per month to Franklin Mutual Fund for a period of 12 months. The said period was over on 1st May 07 and you were informed accordingly the same was acknowledged by you. In spite of that you have paid 13th as an additional installment of $240 to the said Fund House. This is the reason I am overdrawn by $240. Please recover the said extra amount from the Fund House and credit it back to my account. Please note that no any debit of $70 is made from my account. Please confirm by return of post.

An early action shall be very highly appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
