Essay - Never contend with a man who has nothing to lose

Essay Topic: Never compete with someone who has nothing to lose
Any business is the most critical and important venture. It needs investment of your hard earned money. It calls for a lot of profound studies, analysis and calculations. One can’t set-up business just on an impulse as it can be disastrous and turn a person a popper. Hence either to start a new business or to expand the existing business or to compete calls for a lot of market survey, homework, calculations and own resources. None should take risks at random to be successful in business; one must take calculated risks only.
In this era of cut-throat competition; to be successful in business, one has to compete. And competition is inevitable. But one must know with whom he or she is going to compete. Baltasar Gracian, a Spanish philosopher, once said, “
Never contend with a man who has nothing to lose”. It is sure that if one competes with someone who has nothing to lose, he or she is sure to lose in that race. A person who has nothing to lose has no fear.
For example say there is a person who has enough money for survival. Besides he or she has adequate savings too in addition he has no dependants or kith and kin. Such person has no fear of losing money hence can take any high risk. This type of person can gain a lot and lose minimal. But this policy does not hold good for other businessmen with limited resources and hard-earned money.
In conclusion, only those who have little or nothing to lose emerge winners in a competition. Hence wise business men should not compete with such a person who has nothing to lose.
