Smile and Peace

Essay: - Smile and Peace
“Peace begins with a smile” says Mother Teresa. Smile is a positive non-verbal communication, an agreement, a sign of love and compassion. It takes a moment, but the memory of it lasts forever. A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business, and is the countersign of friendship. It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and it is nature's best antidote for trouble. Nevertheless it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile as much as the one who has no more to give."
With the Smile, one can reduce the level of hatred he has towards the other person. Remember “Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” said Coretta Scott King an American Author. Smiling is contagious. Once you smile at a person, he or she smiles back at you. Thereby both are happy the smiler and the receiver. Hence for that moment hatred vanishes and the journey towards peace begins. We know from a renowned quote of

Lao Tzu that “Journey of 1000 miles begins with one step.
Smile as many times as possible in a day at someone you never want to smile. Love and compassion shall come rushing to you and the one who receives. It takes a moment, but the pleasant memory of it lasts forever. Smile is one of the most romantic things in the world. A smile helps display our feelings to the world. Feelings of love, joy, or laughter; all put on display with a smile. Even the darkest of days are brightened by a smile.
In nut shell, when there is love and compassion, there is no room for hatred. Today, countries fight with each other for power and resources. However, they don’t work on internal problems that are affecting the citizens of the country. If, instead of nursing hatred for other countries, caste, creed, colour and religion, if a nation provides food and shelter for its citizens and eradicates poverty, the world would be full of peace and harmony and a better and a happier place to live.

Common Sense

Essay Common sense is genius dressed in its working clothes
An American essayist and poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson, once said, “Common sense is genius dressed in its working clothes”. There are many people in the world who are smart and intelligent. However, not all have common sense.
In fact, ordinary people with an average Intelligence Quotient (IQ) may have more common sense than highly educated persons.
Here is a story of in inmate of insane asylum who exhibited a great commonsense during the crises faced by a motorist. The motorist was driving his car. Unfortunately one of the wheels got flat and he was stranded in front of an insane asylum. Motorist jacked his car, took out the hub cap, opened the bolt of sick wheel and kept four bolts carefully in the hub cap on the road. While he was busy taking out the spare wheel from the trunk, a car raced by and kicked the hub cap. The hub cap with four fasteners flung and fell in roadside ravine. Now it was impossible to find those back due to dark. The motorist badly frustrated stood aside helplessly.
An inmate of insane asylum had been watching all this. He shouted Hey Mister Motorist come here. I show you how to deal with this problem. He advised motorist to remove other hub caps and remove one bolt from each healthy wheel, fasten the spare wheel with three bolts and reach to the nearest repair garage and put back missing fasteners in the wheels and reach to your destination.
The astounded motorist exclaimed wow what a great idea. He then asked why you are here. The inmate replied I may be crazy but not stupid. This explains that, just because one is not educated does not mean that he lacks common sense. Secondly just because one is educated and well dressed he or she may have common-sense.
In conclusion to survive in the world, we need skilled, smart and experienced people. However to be a genius in the competitive world setting, common sense is most essential.
