Many important discoveries that have been made in 20th century are beneficial for the mankind. In this essay I shall elaborate some of them. At an outset the most prominent ones are the, Computerization and Space Travel.
The period from 1700 through 20th century was a period of great industrial revolution. During this period many discoveries and technology advance took place and continued. The steam engine that had its own limitations was replaced by diesel and petrol fueled engines which for the most part replaced older forms of energy used. The emergence of electric power and its widespread use gave rise to an upsurge in technology that required less manpower and man-hours to complete the same tasks as were previously being done manually. The creation of the computer chip and the subsequent discoveries brought about more inventions which facilitated the efficiency of a multitude of applications.
The radio, television, and telephone are the most important discoveries. Communication devices had a profound impact on the culture, economy, and lifestyle. People have been able to watch events as they unfold, keep track of economic trends, and communicate with people globally. Media and entertainment have all benefited due to advancements in communication field. The gaps that were created due to time differences and distances have been bridged by the end of the 20th century, bringing people, countries, and businesses closer together.
Summarizing, the 20th century saw the emergence of tall buildings, hydroelectric dams, high bridges, and highways. Buildings like Skyscrapers, like World Trade Center and the Empire State Building in New York, Sears Tower in Chicago. The widespread expansion of electric power grids and the constant increase in demand for electricity worldwide prompted the construction of dams and allied infrastructures of unprecedented size.
