“Face to Face Communication”

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Face-to-face communication is better than other types of communication, such as letters, email, or telephone calls. Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
------------------------------------------------

I fully agree that face to face communication is superior to electronic mode of communication. Even in this computer era, Face-to-face communication skills still remain the most vital need to career success. “Consistent, daily face-to-face communication in addition to just good feelings promotes effective and collaborative teamwork.”

Face-to-face communication remains the most powerful tool for human interaction. However fashionable and sophisticated the electronic devices may be, those can never fully replace the intimacy and immediacy of people conversing face to face in the same room. For most superior quality of interaction, it is always helpful to go back to the basics and get face-to-face. Face to face communication has worked miracles in communication for millions of years. Thousands of experts opine that the best communication occurs only when a speaker and a listener are facing each other in the same room. “Eye contact, facial expressions, body movements, space, time, distance, appearance—all these nonverbal clues influence the way the message is interpreted, or decoded, by the receiver.

Disadvantages of impersonal communication are: -

· Conflict: When masses of people are extremely upset, it is impossible to cool them down from a long distance.
· Emotion: When people in masses, are in great emotional distress, they respond more positively to in-person contact than to electrically transmitted messages.
· Priority: Where the situation involves timely launching and rollout of a product which is essential to the success of the company and the team, needs face to face communication in one premises and not the distant communication.

In conclusion, Face to Face Communication is superior to electronic communication. However many routine type of communication like acknowledgement slips, money receipts etc can be sent through electronic mail without any loss.

“Equal Funds for Sports & Libraries”

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Universities should give the same amount of money to their students’ sports activities as they give to their university libraries. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

I do not agree to the term “same amount”. Fund allocation is a company policy and depends on need and availability. I shall elaborate my view point in this essay.

The objective of any university is to educate students to acquire highest academic qualification. Furthermore provide all possible material, help and assistance for research projects and advanced study. Allocate funds accordingly.

A library is a collection of information, sources, resources and services, organized for use, and maintained by a university. In the more traditional sense, it is the collection of books. This collection and services are used by people who choose not to buy or cannot afford to buy an extensive collection themselves. Research scholars need extensive material and no individual can be expected to buy and possess this large quantum of material.

Nevertheless, sports are equally important for students thus universities must not ignore sports activities. There must be enough fund allocation for sport activities. Games and Sports are important not only from the view point of entertainment and amusement of the students but equally from the view point of their fitness and sound physical and mental health. After the student’s prolonged monotony when students are totally worked up, games and sports is the only way to overcome the stress of monotony. Some team of university students may generate very high class sportsmen or players of international standards. Those shall bring a very good name and fame to the university.

In nutshell a university, depending upon its policy matter, may or may not allocate equal fund for library and sports. However enough fund allocation must be there for sports such that sports and games activities don’t get slowed down or paralyzed.

“Enjoy Money or Save”

Is it better to enjoy your money when you earn it or is it better to save your money for some time in the future? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
--------------------------------------------------

It is always better to enjoy money when it is available to you. Whatever balance money you have after fulfilling your basic needs and enjoyment can be kept aside as saving for contingencies. Many people earn enormous amount of money and don’t at all spend for their own entertainment and amusement those people are misers and do self neglect.

Every one born is bound to die one day. God gives human life to eat drink and be merry and to enjoy the life to fullest. As the time goes by one becomes old and approaches toward an end. After the end there is no chance to enjoy. By not enjoying during the life span one does gross injustice to him or her.

I came across an article by an Indian gentleman from Gujarat. The article was about a huge amount of money and gold saved by his father in addition to the money earned and saved by him over a period of several years. As the article described, both father and son never enjoyed their money. They were busy providing money for their younger generation and towards contingencies. The bank in which they had account went into moratorium and they lost more than 50% of the money. A big quantum from the balance 50 % was lost in two consecutive natural calamities, those were floods followed by an earthquake. In a way the writer has stressed upon readers to enjoy their money earn to the fullest.

In conclusion, one most enjoy money to the fullest. Saving can be done for contingencies but not at the cost of comforts. Sacrificing and saving is not a saving at all.

“Education is a life long task”

Education is a lifelong task. Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons to support your idea.
--------------------------------------------------

I fully agree that education is a lifelong process. In this essay I shall elaborate my point of view.

World is dramatically developing and thereby changing day and on. In this fast changing scenario, people must continuously learn and educate themselves to keep pace with the time and be the fittest as “Survival Is for the Fittest” and one who can not keep pace with the time cannot survive. Also keeping well informed is most important because “Information Is Power”.

Looking back to entertainment and information, gramophone and radio are obsolete now. Those have been replaced by television and internet. Handy mobile cell phones have replaced stationary big and bulky telephones. Communication via sea & air has been replaced by electronic mail popularly known as Email. Now Email is the fastest, reliable and widely accepted.

Computerization is so fast improving that one must keep up-to-date information of the latest development and products. Now Air Booking, Rail Booking, Shopping, Banking everything is available on line. One can perform these operations at his desktop and laptop. “Sky is the limit”

Necessity is the mother of invention, and necessity brings innovation. In the very beginning, computers were very huge in size, shape & weight, now we have PCs that can be put on working desk. Besides now computers are available as Laptops that are very lightweight and compact and can be carried anywhere and can be operated by putting them on lap.

In a nutshell, in all walks of life, the scenario is changing fast. One must learn and be educated about all those developments. This can be achieved only if we follow the principle “Education Is A Life Long Process”.

“Education for Development”

Universities should be concerned with educating people so that they will have a wide general knowledge and be able to consider important matters from an informed viewpoint and not train students to do jobs required by the society. Give your opinion.
(i) Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your experience. (ii) Write minimum 250 Words.
----------------------------------------

“Life is a continuous learning process” and a university is an institution for the purpose of imparting highest quality of education for the progress and development of the student. This would lead the community to progress, development and prosperity.

Human society requires universities – they are an essential part of our civilisation, our educational provision, our search for new knowledge and our civic life. Universities teach subjects in great depth and detail. Teaching is done by individuals whose knowledge and insight may be the best in the world. However to study is the responsibility of the student. The lecturers are there to guide and assist but not to direct. At its best, it is about the passing on of general knowledge and information and the training of a mind to think in a different way. The skills that are obtained will not only enable the student to perform a high-level job well but also enable him or her to consider important matters from an informed viewpoint differently than the mass. The acquisition and analysis of data, the construction of a lucid and robust argument, mechanisms for defending that argument and how to communicate it effectively, increases student’s confidence in his or her own intellectual capabilities.

For many students, their courses at university are giving them technical skills which will be essential for their chosen career - engineers, doctors, nurses, computer programmers, scientists, lawyers. These insights will help develop a desired career.

In nutshell, universities should educate people so that they have quite a wide general knowledge and information so that they are able to consider important matters from a well informed viewpoint. University education should not be simply subjective; it must be objective.

“Eat Food At Stands Or Prepare At Home”

Some people prefer to eat at food stands or restaurants. Other people prefer to prepare and eat food at home. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
--------------------------------------------------------

I would prefer to take home made food instead of consuming ready-made food available at fast food stands. The main reason being homemade food is cooked in a neat and clean environment of kitchen. Food can be cooked according to individual’s taste and fitness requirements. Also it is much more hygienic and healthy to take home made food as compared to the food served on stands.

Homemade food can be cooked according to health requirements of the individual especially in the cases of diabetics, hypertensive, overweight and obese people whereas this possibility is ruled out in case of food available on stands.

Since a bulk of food is required to be cooked on stands, foolproof hygiene can not be ensured nor can food be cooked according to the taste and requirements of the individuals. The food on stands is made for huge masses that may not necessarily suit to all.

Many places hawkers stand by the road side to sell the food. Because there is heavy vehicular traffic on the roads that throws a lot of dust and many other impurities from the road. Food at such locations is full of dust and other impurities which is most unhygienic and highly injurious to human health. Intake of such food can cause illnesses like Jaundice, Cholera etc hence food at stands must be avoided.

To sum up homemade food is always better than food at stands. Hence in the interest of good health homemade food must be preferred to food available on stands.

“Earth Is Harmed By Human Activity”

Some people believe that the Earth is being harmed (damaged) by human activity. Others feel that human activity makes the Earth a better place to live. What is your opinion? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
-------------------------------------------------

To a very great extent though unintentionally, the earth is being harmed by human activity. However conscious efforts of mankind can greatly limit such damage if not prevent it.

The single biggest human activity is increasing the population. The basic human needs for fresh water, food, housing and fuel are making unprecedented demands on our global and local ecosystems. Further than the necessities of survival, there is increasing demand throughout the globe for more material goods and services. As the nations strive to increase material wealth and the comforts and conveniences, the pressure on biodiversity and natural resources will only increase. Over population calls for enormous housing constructions this causes trees falling and jungle cutting thereby causing imbalance of ecology. In addition, more vehicles are needed that cause environment pollution by way of carbon mono oxide and carbon-dioxide.

Heat generation add to global warming. Global warming represents a profound and emerging threat to biodiversity around the world. As temperatures rise, many habitats for plants and animals will change sometimes depriving them of the homes and niches. For example, monarch butterflies could lose their wintering habitats in the mountains of Mexico, and polar bears could be affected by the loss of marine life. Many species will not be able to migrate fast enough to keep up with shifting habitat ranges. As a result, many species will become extinct, and ecosystems around the world will become even more fragile.

Massive industrialization causes tremendous amount of gases in the atmosphere that has caused depletion in ozone layer resulting into shortage of Oxygen. Many other liquids discharged in form of effluents contaminate the earth thereby most fertile land turns into barren.

In conclusion though inadvertently, human activity affects the earth adversely.
