Spoken English Grammar 3 Persons

Persons: - In English Grammar we will learn about 3 persons.  That is First, Second and Third.

Also we will learn these persons in terms of Singular and Plural.

1.       “I” is the First Person Singular
2.       “We” is the First Person Plural.
3.       “You” is the Second Person and always addressed in plural as a mark of respect.
4.       “He or She” is the Third Person Singular and,
5.       “They” is the Third Person Plural.

Now we look at the verbs: - am.... is.... was.... are and were
Am and is are used for present tense only and was and were are used in past. However am is used only with “I”

Examples:,-

·         We are students. We were students.... Now we are looking out for good jobs.
·         You are a teacher. You were a teacher... Now you are retired.
·         He is a healthy boy. He was a sick boy.
·         She is a normal girl. She was sick.

·         They were our contractors.

Making short sentences: -

  • I work.
  • We work.
  • You work.
  • They work.
  • He works.
  • She works.
With III person singular and in present perfect tense we suffix  s and es to the verb. I.e. works here.
