Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A person’s childhood years (the time from birth to twelve years of age) are the most important years of a person’s life. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
======================================================
I agree that age of a child up to 12 years is an important period. My elaboration will be in three stages i.e. ages 4 – 8 – 12 years.
Four years children are outrageous, tell lies and are stubborn. They think them to be big shots and mix reality and fantasy. They argue, feel bossy and defiant. They avoid getting in bed easily. At night, they are likely to have bad dreams. They run ahead of adults and refuse to hold hands. Fours play with other children and need honest information about bodies and babies. Parents should not question a four years child if one did something, because the child will learn to lie. Teach the child the consequences for misbehavior; then when the child misbehaves, apply the consequences. Give the child lots of hugs and kisses even if you have to catch the child to do it.
Eight years old demands attention from parents and wants parents to think the way child does. One is overly sensitive. One has trouble playing with peers. Boys want to play with boys and girls want to play with girls. The child needs recognition and encouragement. Parents must pay attention for good behavior.
Twelve years children, want guidance but not lectures. Body changes cause embarrassment and self-consciousness. Their behavior becomes erratic due to hormonal influences. They want to make their own decisions, choose their own friends. Parents must listen and give examples but not lectures. Build strong relationship based on mutual respect and caring. Spend time together. Give them responsibility for some part of family life. Plainly brief them about sexuality, drugs, the consequences and future. Ask the questions; don't wait for them to ask you.
In conclusion the age up to 12 years is a vitally important period.
