“Has Television Destroyed Communication?”

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television has destroyed communication among friends and family. Use specific examples to support your opinion.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t agree that television has destroyed communication between friends and family members. Nevertheless it has adversely affected the communication to some extent.

Earlier, children loved to visit other houses with their parents. But nowadays, if we ask them to join us, they will say, please, we will sit at home and watch TV. They prefer sitting at home and watching TV over visiting relatives. It is also not a good practice to place TV in the dining room. In the busy modern times, there is lack of communication between the family members. Watching television during Dinner and lunch must be avoided.

The present trend in the theme of serials is not satisfactory. In all the stories, importance is given to the negative aspects of human personality. They depict the unhealthy relationships between the man and the wife, the shortcuts to divorces. Violence is given preference. By watching such programs all through the time, the behaviors of even the adults seem to have changed. They have turned narrow-minded and they tend to find fault with others, enjoy gossips and resort to negative thinking.

Earlier grandparents loved to look after the younger. But now the modern grandma and pa don’t find time to spend with grandchildren because of these never-ending soaps. This is a cyclic process. Children learn through imitation. If the elderly persons are behaving like this, children can’t be blamed.

In conclusion, we can’t say that TV has destroyed communication. We must account for the benefits of TV. By viewing the news; Sports and Business programs, we get entertainment and information about all the happenings around the world. The programs on education, quiz, health and development are beneficial to students also.
