“Handmade Products Verses Machine-made”

Some items (such as clothes or furniture) can be made by hand or by machine. Which do you prefer — items made by hand or items made by machine? Use reasons and specific examples to explain your choice.

I prefer hand-made items in furniture and clothing (fabrics). Use of manmade items gives boost to handicrafts and cottage industries. I am from India and in this essay I shall describe all about man-made furniture that are extremely popular all over the world and extensively used in other advanced countries.

In India, there are many areas where wooden handicraft work has been done traditionally since last many centuries. But the handicrafts of Sankheda in Gujarat – India, have a unique identity among all. The name and fame has spread not only in India but all over the world. This furniture is very popular and exported to countries like UK, USA and Canada. Today there are very few skilled artisans and artists left who produce great, artistic furniture with historical values. Indians feel proud to continue centuries old traditions. The Sankheda carpenters have kept up with the age of automation as far as some of their tools are concerned but not at the cost of compromising on the inherent quality of the art. Several families in the village are involved in satisfying the growing demand for the furniture, which has made the village famous. Some export directly to the clients while others supply through export houses.

Furthermore, manmade fabrics clothe the common man. Manmade textiles have emerged as a major source of clothing as well as a fierce global competition of exports of Man-Made Fibers and Textiles. Yarn and fiber exports are much stronger than fabric and made-up shipments.

In nutshell, if we use man made furniture items and fabrics we shall help clothe the commoners and boost the Indian home cottage industry of furniture and fabrics.
