I think athletes and entertainers do deserve the large quantum of money they receive.
The biggest factor is dedication of the fans. If spectators didn’t spend so much time watching and reading about sports, athletes wouldn’t be paid as much. The fans go to all these sporting events and pay so high amounts of money for tickets and for team merchandise etc. Event tickets are pretty expensive. The profit comes from the fans and owners of the teams. Furthermore in sports there are many health hazards involved. Athletes are constantly involved in injuries and risk factor is very high. Hence athletes do deserve big money I strongly feel.
Similarly there are actresses and actors or say entertainers that get paid very high per movie. This is because of their hard work during filming. Many stunts involve high risks of injury to the actors. While filming of an Indian movie Coolie in 1982, a noted film actor, Amitabh Bachchan was seriously injured during the filming of a fight scene with one of his co-actor. He was hospitalized with a ruptured intestine for months; the extent of injury was so severe that the actor was very close to death. A remarkable outpouring of support and concern by his fans and the nation in general followed. After recovering, Amitabh Bachchan resumed shooting for film Coolie, and it finally released with a great success.
In conclusion, athletes and entertainers exert very much; risk element in the profession is high, besides; they have to be fit for performing by staying healthy physically and mentally. Hence I feel they deserve big money.
