Essay: - Children and Reality Shows

Essay: - Children and Reality Shows

Participation of Children in TV Reality shows has adverse effects on the tender minds and hearts of the children. Firstly it is against the Indian law to engage person below 18 for the paid work. This amounts to engaging “Child Labor”.

The participating children are under enormous pressure to perform in front of cameras and on the stage and the huge audience. Secondly they do tremendous amount of rehearsals at home as well as at the studios prior to the show. This makes them totally tired and exhausted. This is really inhuman.

Many a times the participants have tripped on the stage due to weary. On the top of it, after the performance the harsh remarks of the judges, the child is unable to handle and becomes depressed, gloomy and sad. On the other hand they are scolded by the parents too for not winning. This is the gross cruelty to the children.  This deteriorates the mental health of the child participant.

Because of these reality shows the parents have started expecting too much from the children. Children are made to overwork at home and practice for the show. This ruins the academic career of the children. Besides, child participants are exposed to adult content and jokes that is absolutely undesirable.

Childhood is the most precious phase of an individual's life and it comes only once. It is meant for getting love from parents, family members and friends and Playing plus Schooling. Wasting childhood with such a high quantum of tension and labour for moneymaking is simply not right.
The worst part is that cases have happened wherein the children suffered paralysis and even committed suicide.

In summary such reality shows with child participation must be totally banned in the interest of the sound mental health and good academic career growth of the new generation.
