Other people disagree and think that this money should be spent on more basic needs. Which one of these opinions do you agree with? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

I feel government must spend more money on basic human needs rather than computer technology.

Immense increase in world population has given rise to many grave problems. The basic human needs for fresh water, food, housing and fuel have sky rocketed and those are making unprecedented demands on our global and local ecosystems. Further than the necessities of survival, there is increasing demand throughout the globe for more material goods and services. As the nations strive to increase material wealth and the comforts and conveniences, the pressure on biodiversity and natural resources has tremendously increased. Enormous housing constructions causes trees falling and jungle cutting thereby causing imbalance of ecology. Furthermore, numerous vehicles cause environment pollution by emission of carbon mono oxide and carbon-dioxide and heat generation.

Heat generation thus adds to global warming. Global warming represents a profound and emerging threat to biodiversity around the world. As temperatures rise, many habitats for plants and animals will change sometimes depriving them of the homes and niches. As a result, many species will become extinct, and ecosystems around the world will become even more fragile.

Massive industrialization has caused tremendous amount of gases in the atmosphere that has in turn caused depletion in ozone layer resulting into shortage of Oxygen. Many other liquids discharged in form of effluents contaminate the earth thereby most fertile land turns into barren.

Summarizing, a large population strata consists of commoners that has no direct or indirect impact of advancement of computer technology. However computer technology is important for overall progress and development. But the basic human needs are a paramount importance for survival and must not be neglected.
