While schooling we share accommodation with roommate and we both work for a common goal of acquiring knowledge and degrees through education. Hence our relationship must be amicable, cordial and friendly. In this essay we shall look at some important qualities that we expect our roommate to possess.

First of all in a good roommate it would be great if we like each other and have common interests. However one of the most rewarding experiences while in college is getting to know many different kinds of people and learning to tolerate or celebrate differences.

Roommates are individuals with likes and dislikes, priorities and peeves. To be a respectful roommate to our counterpart, we should not crowd them out of the room with our friends, or disturb them by typing all night, or devote ourselves to changing their minds about political or social issues or music. Although most people feel good about sharing their stuff with others, it is possible to take unfair advantage of someone's generosity. When something of roommate bothers us, we should be direct and respectful in bringing it up sooner than later. We try to phrase our concern in terms of specific behaviors that our roommate can work to change. It is good to bring up a concern right at the time that bothers each other. This way we can address it immediately rather than letting it continue and cause annoyance to each other and grow into a bigger problem. Sometimes, if such concerns are serious, we should take our roommate over a cup of coffee; discuss concerns in an effective and respectful way and resolve.

Summarizing, living with each other involves good adjustments to one another's needs and preferences that we must maintain amicably in the interest of our studies and careers.
