“People Work for Money”

People work because they need money to live. What are some other reasons that people work? Discuss one or more of these reasons. Use specific examples and details to support your answer.
--------------------------------------------

The main reason for working with majority of population is earning money. However some exceptional individual may have some different reasons for working.

The reasons for working are as individual as the person. Nevertheless, we all work because we obtain something that we need from work. Reward thus obtained from the work impacts morale, motivation, and the quality of life. Some people work for personal fulfillment; others work for love of what they do. Others work to accomplish goals and to feel as if they are contributing to something larger than themselves. The bottom line is that we all work for money and for reasons too individual to assign similarities to all workers. Frederick Irving Herzberg a noted psychologist, who became one of the most influential names in business management, considers that 'feelings of self-improvement, achievement, and the desire for the acceptance of greater responsibility' are more important than money to the people.

In contrast, very interestingly, Directors have all the job satisfaction they need or want. They carry considerable responsibility and success often depends on individual effort. They have nicely and often luxuriously furnished offices, dine in the directors' dining room, have the benefit of a company car and last but not least work with pleasant colleagues in a pleasant way. It is because they have all the job satisfaction, what they want is money that is more important to them.

In a nutshell different people have different motivation and objectives behind work. Hence it cannot be generalized that people work only for money.
