“Games & Life”

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Playing games teaches us about life. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

I agree that playing games can teach us about life. In this era of computerization now games are available in electronic form. In this essay I shall describe e-games and their influence on our lives.

Children play educational games to learn colors, numbers, and names. Virtually all children will have played video games by the time they graduate from high school. Game play is common in college, as well. Some people play games regularly whereas others play occasionally. However, games aren’t just for youth; anyone can play games regardless of age. Gaming has become part of our culture. Today’s games are coming to represent distributed authentic professionalism,” meaning that players are learning how to be a professional—a solider, an astronaut, an entrepreneur, and so on. Games also require the player to adopt a certain set of values and a particular world view. By the end of the game, the player has essentially experienced a profession. Various types of games are as follows.

· Adventure games, where the player moves through a virtual world.
· Puzzle games that enhance player’s general knowledge.
· Role-playing games, where the player assumes the role of a person.
· Strategy games, such as The Sims, where a player’s strategy drives the game.
· Jeopardy-style games, encourage quick mobilization of facts, labels, concrete concepts
· Arcade-style games, are good for improving speed of response, and visual processing
· Adventure games, are useful for promoting hypothesis testing and problem solving.

In nutshell, games teach us quite a lot about life like making decisions, goals setting etc and a social networking through networking and emailing.
